The Standard American Diet: It is S.A.D.

The Standard American Diet (S.A.D.) has the following factors that increase the risk of degenerative diseases such as diabetes, cancer, heart disease, stroke, intestinal disorders, etc.:

  • S.A.D. is high in unhealthy fats, is low in fiber, low in complex carbohydrates, high in sugar, low in fresh vegetable and fruits, and is based on aesthetics and technology.
  • S.A.D. consists of hormone and antibiotic filled meats, poultry and dairy products, refined grain products, preservatives, flavorings, artificial dyes, synthetic nutrients, chemical additives, processed foods, artificial or imitation foods, diet foods, etc.
  • Food is considered appropriate when it is based on ease of preparation, availability, appearance, aroma and taste. Nutritional aspects are not a concern.
  • S.A.D. rejects the premise that food affects health greatly and in a multitude of ways.
  • S.A.D. gives quick but short-term energy. It makes the blood more acidic and robs the body of valuable nutrients.
  • S.A.D. contributes to the very diseases we are spending money to prevent. The U.S. has spent more money on cancer research than any country in the world.
  • Cultures that eat the reverse of the S.A.D. – good healthy fats, grass fed meats, wild caught fish,  high in complex carbohydrates, fresh fruits and vegetables, and high in fiber – have a lower incidence of cancer and coronary artery disease.
  • When you sit down to a meal consisting of the S.A.D., you might as well put a warning sign on your plate because you virtually are many times expecting your body to assimilate and metabolize ingredients that cause damage to the body.
  • We smile and hand our children this poison S.A.D. When they cry we quiet them with more. Something is wrong here. We are paying a price with hypersensitivity, hyperactivity, attention deficit disorder, mood swings, depression, chronic illness, allergies, etc. Expediency rather than health is not worth it!
  • A quote from a well-documented book, The China Study by T. Colin Campbell, PhD. states, “Then there is the question of our excessive dependence on drugs and surgery to control our health. In its simplest form, eating the right way would largely obviate the enormous costs of using drugs, as well as their side effects. Fewer people would need to wage lengthy, expensive battles with chronic disease in hospitals over their last years of life. Health care costs would drop and medical mistakes would wane as premature death plummeted. In essence, our health care system would finally protect and promote our health as it is meant to do.”
